Can I afford to study abroad in China?

You surely can, as long as you plan ahead of time by first consulting with the study abroad office at MTSU.

Eligibility for Scholarships or financial aid:

MTSU's study abroad office always offers some form of financial aid for students who are qualified. To apply for this financial aid, you need to fill out two forms which are the Study Abroad Scholarship and Faculty Letter of Recommendation Forms. For more information, you can visit the MT Abroad website, or speak with a program advisor who will be more than welcome to assist you. Here is some useful advice about searching for all scholarship opportunities before using federal loans, however, the loans can always be used as a last resort or safety net in case a financial problem arises abroad. Graduation Timeframe:

If I’m studying in China, will it take me longer to graduate?

As long as you satisfy the course requirements for your major, study abroad does not necessarily have to delay your graduation date, to the contrary, it will supplement your academic experience.

2. Goals and objectives:

Do a little homework first during your planning stage, the rule of thumb is that it will take at least six months to find out what university in China and the exact course you expect to study once you decide to enroll. There are many excellent materials focusing on study interests to guide you toward your goals which can be credited toward your minor.

Concentrate on your main study objective and consider that as your long-term academic and professional goals that you can carry all the way to accomplish your degree.

What kind of prerequisite courses should I have before studying in China?

You should have one or two semesters of Chinese language classes before enrolling for this study abroad program. The prerequisite is all about a basic familiarity of the language and culture. Do not be caught unprepared! A basic command in Chinese language and culture will be a tremendous help during your journey.

You are encouraged to attend as many information sessions and orientation meetings as you can. MTSU's Study Abroad program offers such organizational meetings to get you ready for this adventure. The most valuable resourceful for gather this crucial information is your advisor.

3. What classes can I take while studying in China?

Generally speaking, it has to do with basic education programs. Students may take some general classes through study abroad.

Please, talk to your China program advisor about specific classes if you think that you like to attend them. However, to satisfy every requirement according to the guidelines of your major, courses you choose have to be examined and approved by your advisor first.

Choose the region where you want to study. Learning about the history, language, and culture is certain to enhance your experiences outside the classroom. Your daily interaction with people in China will bring the subjects you are learning to life.
